MOONG DAL PAKODA RECIPE  |

Moong Dal Pakoda is spicy Indian fritters that are very popular and are made in almost every Indian household kitchens, especially during monsoon days. 

These pakodas are made with ground yellow moong dal, which is then flavored with cumin seeds, green chilli, ginger, onion, curry leaves and coriander leaves. Just mix up the ingredients and pinch a small batter and drop them in hot oil and then deep fry the pakodas till you get golden brown and crispy texture. Serve these pakodas with coconut chutney or any green chutney. 

Moong dal is enriched with minerals like potassium, magnesium, iron and copper. In addition to this, it also contains folate, fibre and Vitamin B6. Due to Rich in B-complex vitamins, this yellow dal helps break down carbohydrates into glucose and produce ample energy for your body.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup moong dal 
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 green chilli - finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger - finely chopped
  • 1 onion - finely chopped
  • 1 spring curry leaves - chopped
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves - finely chopped
  • salt to taste
  • water - to soak and grind
  • oil - for deep fry

PROCEDURE

  • wash and soak moong dal for 1-2 hour
  • grind the soaked moong dal coarsely with little water
  • transfer the ground dal into the mixing bowl
  • now add cumin seeds, salt, chopped onion, green chilli, ginger, curry leaves and coriander leaves
  • mix everything well
  • heat oil in the kadai
  • pinch a small batter from the bowl and drop in hot oil and fry on medium flame until the pakoda turns golden and crisp (stir occasionally)
  • drain off the pakoda over a kitchen towel to absorb excess oil
  • Enjoy! moong dal pakoda with tomato ketchup or coconut chutney

NOTES

  • adjust spice level according to your taste
  • for no onion no garlic recipe, skip adding the onions and make pakoda

wash and soak moong dal in water for 1-2 hour


drain the excess water


transfer into mixer jar


grind to a coarse paste along with little water


transfer the batter into large bowl


add cumin seeds, salt, chopped onion, green chilli, ginger, curry leaves and coriander leaves


mix well


pinch a small batter from the bowl


drop in hot oil


fry in medium flame till it turns golden brown and crispy texture


drain the excess oil using strainer


fry the remaining balls


serve hot with tomato chutney or coconut chutney
