Ragi ladoo are delicious, healthy and nutritious  sweet made with ragi flour, jaggery and nuts. Ragi is also known as finger millet or red millet or nachni in most Indian languages. This recipe is so simple and easy to prepare under 30 minutes.

The use of adding Jaggery stimulates bowel movements and aids in digestion and prevent constipation. It prevents anemia because of its higher iron content and women who have low hemoglobin can make it a habit to add jaggery in their diet on a regular basis. It improves our immunity in many ways.

  • 2 tsp ghee
  • 2 tbsp cashews - chopped
  • 1 cup ragi flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3/4 cup jaggery - grated
  • 1/8 tsp cardamom powder


  • heat a tsp of ghee in a pan
  • roast the cashews and keep it aside
  • heat a tsp of ghee in the same pan
  • add ragi flour
  • roast the flour in low flame for 5-7 minutes or roast until the color changes and you will get a nice aroma from the ragi flour, keep it aside
  • bring water to boil in a small pot
  • add grated jaggery
  • mix well till the jaggery melts completely 
  • once the jaggery is melted, switch off the flame
  • cool down to room temperature
  • add roasted cashew nuts and cardamom powder in to the flour
  • strain the jaggery syrup (to remove any  impurities) and add into the flour
  • mix well with the spatula and make like a dough
  • grease hand with a tsp of ghee
  • take a small portion from the dough and make small balls
  • make ladoo like this way with all of the dough

  • store the ragi ladoos in an airtight container

  1. ragi has to be roasted nicely in low flame to get rid off its raw smell
  2. you can choose any nuts of your choice, almonds, cashews or walnuts
  3. if you are allergic to nuts, no need to add, make simple ragi ladoo
  4. filter the jaggery syrup to remove any impurities

Ragi Ladoo with Step-By-Step Photo Recipe

heat a tsp of ghee in a pan

add cashew nuts

roast well till light brown color and keep it aside

add water to boil in a small pot

add grated jaggery

mix well

jaggery melts completely

heat a tsp of ghee

add ragi flour

roast ragi flour in a low flame

roast well until the raw smell goes

add cardamom powder

add roasted cashews

strain the jaggery syrup and add in to the flour

mix well with the spatula

take small portion from the dough and make small balls
