Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

  • 1 medium sized onion – thinly sliced

  • 1 spring curry leaves

  • FOR MARINATION
  • 1 pound prawns

  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste

  • 1 tsp red chilli powder

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice or vinegar

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • salt – to taste

  • FOR GRINDING
  • 1 cup grated coconut

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • 2 dry red chillies

  • 1 tsp fennel seeds

  • 1 inch cinnamon stick

Directions

  • in a mixing bowl, add 1 pound prawns, ginger garlic paste, red chilli powder, lemon juice, turmeric powder and salt
  • mix well and rest the marinated bowl for 15-20 minutes
  • in the small mixer jar, add grated coconut, cumin seeds, dry red chillies, fennel seeds and cinnamon stick
  • grind to a coarse paste without adding water and set aside
  • now heat oil in a pan, add thinly sliced onion and saute for few minutes until translucent
  • add marinated prawns and cook on high heat till the water leached from the prawns dries up or until they turn pink
  • at last, add in coarsely ground coconut paste and stir-fry until coconut is lightly browned
  • serve hot with rice or as a side dish
