PRAWN THORAN WITH STEP BY STEP PHOTO RECIPE

in a mixing bowl, add freshly prawns, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, ginger garlic paste and salt

mix well and rest the marinated bowl for 15-20 minutes

in the small mixer jar, add grated coconut, cumin seeds, dry red chillies, fennel seeds and cinnamon stick

grind to a coarse paste without adding water and set aside

heat oil in a pan for prawn thoran

temper with curry leaves

add 1 cup thinly sliced onion

saute well for few minutes until translucent

now, add marinated prawns

combine well with the roasted onions

cook on high heat till the water leached from the prawns

continue cooking the prawn, it should dries up completely

add in coarsely ground coconut paste and mix well

stir-fry until coconut is lightly browned and then turn off the flame

prawn thoran is ready to serve with hot steamed rice, chapathi or dosa

1 tbsp coconut oil
1 medium sized onion – thinly sliced
1 spring curry leaves
- FOR MARINATION
1 pound prawns
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tbsp lemon juice or vinegar
1 tsp turmeric powder
salt – to taste
- FOR GRINDING
1 cup grated coconut
1 tsp cumin seeds
2 dry red chillies
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 inch cinnamon stick
Directions
- in a mixing bowl, add 1 pound prawns, ginger garlic paste, red chilli powder, lemon juice, turmeric powder and salt
- mix well and rest the marinated bowl for 15-20 minutes
- in the small mixer jar, add grated coconut, cumin seeds, dry red chillies, fennel seeds and cinnamon stick
- grind to a coarse paste without adding water and set aside
- now heat oil in a pan, add thinly sliced onion and saute for few minutes until translucent
- add marinated prawns and cook on high heat till the water leached from the prawns dries up or until they turn pink
- at last, add in coarsely ground coconut paste and stir-fry until coconut is lightly browned
- serve hot with rice or as a side dish
