Peanut chutney is quick, healthy, delicious and perfect for Idli and Dosa.  This recipe is easy to make, simply fry all the ingredients with a tsp of oil and grind to a smooth paste. INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup peanuts
  • 1/4 cup bengal gram dal
  • 2-3 red chilli
  • 1/4 inch ginger
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 10 curry leaves
  • 1 tsp asafoetida (hing)
  • 1/2 inch tamarind
  • salt as needed
  • water as required to grind chutney
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Season: 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal
  • pinch of hing
  • few curry leaves

PROCEDURE

  • Dry roast peanuts in a low medium flame until color changes
  • transfer to a mixer grinder
  • dry roast bengal gram dal and transfer to mixer grinder
  • add a tsp of oil in a frying pan
  • add curry leaves, red chillies and ginger
  • saute for a minute or until red chilli color changes and transfer to a mixer grinder
  • add sesame seeds, roast in low medium flame until color changes and transfer to a mixer grinder
  • now add asafoetida, salt and tamarind
  • add required amount of water
  • grind to a smooth paste
  • transfer to a small bowl
  • in the same pan, add a tsp of oil
  • add mustard seeds, allowed to crackle
  • add urad dal, hing and curry leaves, wait until dal color changes
  • transfer over to top of the chutney
  • serve this peanut chutney with Idli and Dosa.

Peanut Chutney Step by Step Photo Recipe:

Take peanut


add in the frying pan

fry in the low medium flame

Colour changes 

Transfer to mixer grinder

Take Bengal gram dal

Fry in low medium flame

Colour changes

Transfer to mixer grinder

Add a tsp of oil in the frying pan

Add Curry Leaves

Add Red Chillies


Add Ginger

Fry in medium flame until red chilli color changes

Transfer to Mixer Grinder

Add Sesame seeds in the same frying pan

Saute in the medium flame

Sesame colour will change

Transfer to mixer grinder

add Asafoetida (hing)

Add Salt

Add Tamarind

Add required amount of water

Grind to a smooth paste

Peanut Chutney Ready

Transfer to a mixing bowl

For Seasoning the Chutney: add mustard seeds, urad dal, hing and curry leaves

Saute in low medium flame

Garnish over top of the chutney
