Onion Coconut chutney is a perfect accompaniment for South Indian Breakfast like Idli and Dosa. This chutney can be made very easily with available ingredients from the kitchen like onion, garlic, coconut, red chillies and tamarind and is flavored with mustards seeds, urad dal, and curry leaves in sesame oil. This recipe is adapted from yummy tummy aarthi kitchen. Follow my step by step photo recipe to prepare Onion Coconut Chutney. RECIPE FOR ONION COCONUT CHUTNEY

INGREDIENTS

To Saute and Grind

  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 onion - roughly chopped
  • 4 garlic
  • 4 red chilli
  • 1 small tamarind
  • 3 tbsp grated coconut
For Seasoning
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1 spring curry leaves

PROCEUDRE

  • heat a tsp of oil in a pan
  • add roughly chopped onion and garlic
  • saute for 2 minutes or until it turns translucent and light pink
  • add red chillies and tamarind
  • saute well for a minute
  • add grated coconut, mix well and cook in for a minute
  • switch off the flame and cool down the ingredients
  • transfer into mixer grinder
  • add salt, little water and grind to a smooth paste
  • transfer into a bowl
  • chutney is ready
  • for seasoning, heat a tsp of oil
  • temper with mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves
  • pour seasoning over the chutney
  • mix well
  • serve with idli, dosa, upma or paniyaram
  • simply delicious 😋 

NOTES

  • adjust spice level according to your taste

Onion Coconut Chutney With Step By Step

heat oil in a pan, add roughly chopped onion and garlic


saute for 2-3 minutes


add red chillies and tamarind


add grated coconut


cook for a minute and then switch off the flame, cool down completely


transfer into mixer grinder


add salt and water and then grind to a smooth paste


heat a tsp of oil in a pan, temper with mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves


pour the seasoning over the chutney
