Chicken Curry - This easy Home Style chicken curry is so flavorful and delicious made under 30 minutes. The chicken is so tender and juicy with delicious curry gravy served over steamed rice, dosa, roti or naan. Dry coconut powder is the key ingredient to this curry.


It is a typical chicken curry from South India consists of chicken stewed in an onion and tomato based sauce and a variety of spices. This is one of the dish that I prepare for my family during weekends, potlucks and special occasions. Follow my step-by-step photo recipe to prepare Chicken Curry. RECIPE FOR CHICKEN CURRY

INGREDIENTS

To Roast and Grind

  • 1 tbsp coriander seed
  • 1 tsp fennel seed
  • 1 tsp pepper corn
  • 2 inch cinnamon stick
  • 3 red chilli
  • 2 kashmiri red chilli
  • 1 tbsp dry coconut powder (kopara)
  • 1 spring curry leaves
For Curry
  • 3 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 spring curry leaves
  • 1 onion - finely chopped
  • 1.5 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 green chilli
  • 1 large tomato - chopped
  • 500 g chicken
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1.5 cup water

PROCEDURE

  • clean the chicken in running water and then wash twice with little turmeric powder and keep it aside
  • dry roast coriander seeds, pepper corn, fennel seeds and cinnamon stick
  • roast well for few seconds until nice aroma comes
  • add red chili, Kashmiri red chilli, dry coconut powder and curry leaves
  • dry roast in low flame for few seconds or until it changes the color
  • switch off the flame
  • cool down completely
  • transfer it into mixer grinder and grind to a fine powder and keep it aside
  • heat oil in a pressure cooker
  • add mustard seeds and allow to splutter
  • then add curry leaves and followed by chopped onions
  • saute well
  • add green chilli and ginger garlic paste
  • saute well until the nice aroma goes
  • add chopped tomato
  • cook until it gets mushy
  • add cleaned chicken pieces
  • add turmeric powder, ground powder and salt
  • mix well and cook for 2 minutes
  • add 1.5 cup water and mix well
  • pressure cook for 3-5 whistle
  • garnish with curry leaves
  • serve hot!
  • taste delicious with dosa, Chapathi and steamed rice
NOTE
  1. dry coconut powder is the key ingredient to this recipe
  2. it gives awesome flavor and delicious taste
  3. adding Kashmiri red chilli powder gives nice color to this curry

CHICKEN CURRY MY STYLE WITH STEP-BY-STEP PHOTO RECIPE


add coriander seed, fennel seed, pepper corn and cinnamon stick


dry roast well


add curry leaves, red chilli, kashmiri red chilli and dry coconut powder


dry roast for few seconds, switch off the flame and 
cool down completely


transfer into mixer grinder


grind to a fine powder


heat oil in a pressure cooker


add mustard seeds and allowed to splutter and then add curry leaves


add chopped onion


saute well 


add ginger garlic paste and green chilli


saute well for 1 minute


add chopped tomato


saute well until it gets mushy


add chicken


add turmeric powder, ground powder and salt


mix well and cook for 2 minutes in low flame


add 1.5 cup water and mix well


pressure cook for 3-5 whistle


chicken curry ready


garnish with curry leaves
