RECIPE FOR RAVA KICHADI | SOOJI KICHADI

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup rava | sooji |semolina
  • 1.5 tbsp cooking oil
  • 3 cloves
  • 2 inch cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp hing (asafoetida)
  • 2 green chilli – slitted
  • 6 curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp cashews
  • 1 medium size onion – thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp minced ginger
  • 1 tbsp chopped tomatoes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped carrot
  • 1/4 cup chopped beans
  • 1/8 cup peas
  • salt as needed
  • water as needed
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • few chopped coriander leaves for garnish

PROCEDURE

  • dry roast rava in a pan or till you get a nice aroma of roasted rava and keep it aside
  • heat oil in a pan
  • add cloves, cinnamon, hing, curry leaves and green chillies
  • saute well or  untill curry leaves turn crisp
  • add cashews and fry well 
  • add thinly sliced onion, minced garlic and ginger
  • saute until onion turns translucent
  • add a tbsp of tomatoes, saute well, just for sourness, if you don’t like skip this step
  • add chopped carrot, beans and peas
  • mix well 
  • add half a cup of water to cook vegetables
  • cover and cook in medium flame for 10 minutes
  • add roasted rava
  • combine altogether
  • add 3.5 cups of water and mix well
  • cover and cook in low flame
  • when all the water is absorbed
  • keep stirring in low flame
  • now add a tbsp of ghee
  • mix well and cook on low flame for 5-7 minutes and keep stirring
  • switch off the flame
  • garnish with coriander leaves

NOTES: You can add more ghee to taste like restaurant style. Serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar. Rava Kichadi tastes delicious. 

RAVA KICHADI | SOOJI KICHADI STEP-BY-STEP PHOTO RECIPE

take 1 cup rava

dry roast rava in a pan or until you get nice aroma and keep it aside

heat oil in a pan

add cloves and cinnamon

add hing, green chillies and curry leaves, saute well

add cashews

fry well

add thinly sliced onions

saute well 

add finely chopped garlic and ginger

saute well

add chopped tomatoes

saute well until it turns mushy

add chopped vegetables

stir fry for 1 minute

add half cup of water, cover and cook in medium flame 

vegetables are half cooked

add roasted rava

combine well

add 3.5 cup of water

mix well

cover and cook in low flame

once all water is absorbed, add a tbsp of ghee

stir well and cook on low flame for 5-7 minutes

garnish with coriander leaves

mix well

serve with any chutney or sambar
