LEMON RASAM WITH STEP BY STEP PHOTO RECIPE

soak toor dal in warm water for 30 minutes

pressure cook for 3 whistle and then mash the toor dal with back of the ladle or using hand blender

heat a tbsp of oil in a heavy bottomed pan, temper with mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing and curry leaves

add roughly chopped tomatoes and green chilli

cook for 2-3 minutes until tomatoes turn mushy

add freshly chopped coriander leaves

add turmeric powder and dry ginger powder

mix well and cook this mixture for 3-4 minutes

now add cooked toor dal, black pepper powder and salt

add 1 cup water and mix well

boil the rasam until it becomes frothy and then turn off the flame. add lemon juice and mix well

Lemon Rasam is ready to serve with hot steamed rice

Lemon Rasam Recipe

1/4 cup toor dal
1 cup water
1 tbsp ghee
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
1/8 tsp hing
1 spring curry leaves
1 large ripe tomato – roughly chopped
2 green chilli – chopped
1/4 cup coriander leaves – chopped
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp dry ginger powder
1/4 tsp black pepper powder
salt – to taste
1/4 cup lemon juice
Directions
- soak toor dal in warm water for 30 minutes. pressure cook for 3 whistle and then mash the dal with back of the ladle
- heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan and temper with mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing and curry leaves
- add roughly chopped tomato and green chilli. cook the tomatoes for 1-2 minutes until it gets mushy
- add chopped coriander leaves, dry ginger powder, turmeric powder, black pepper powder and salt
- continue to cook for 3-4 minutes till raw smell goes off
- add cooked toor dal and 1 cup water and mix well
- boil the rasam until it becomes frothy. then turn off the flame and immediately squeeze 1 lemon and mix well
- lemon rasam is ready to serve with hot steamed rice

Notes
- avoid boiling the rasam after adding lemon juice
- adjust the lemon quantity according to your taste.
