This is a simple recipe for a popular Indian spiced chickpea curry called Chana Masala. RECIPE FOR CHANA MASALA

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup chick peas
  • 3 cloves
  • 1 inch cinnamon
  • 2 bay leaf
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tomato roughly chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp sambar podi (chilli and coriander powder mixed equal ratio)
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • salt as needed
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • water as needed
  • coriander leaves for garnishing

PROCEDURE

  • Soak chick peas in water for overnight
  • add oil in pressure cooker
  • add cloves, cinnamon sticks and bay leaf
  • saute for a minute
  • add finely chopped onions
  • saute well till it turns translucent
  • add ginger garlic paste, saute well until the raw smell goes out
  • add chopped tomatoes, saute well until it turns mushy
  • now add turmeric powder, sambar powder and garam masala powder
  • mix well
  • add soaked chickpeas
  • mix well
  • cover and cook on low medium flame for 5 minutes
  • add salt 
  • add required amount of water
  • pressure cook for 5-7 whistles or until chickpeas turn soft and mushy
  • garnish with coriander leaves
  • serve hot with chapthi, roti or naan.

Chana Masala Step by Step Photo Recipe

Soak Chickpeas in water for overnight

after 12 hours

Add oil in Pressure Cooker

Add Cloves

Add Cinnamon

Add Bay Leaves

Add finely chopped onions

Saute well

Onions become translucent

Add ginger garlic paste

Add roughly chopped tomatoes

Saute Well

Onion and Tomatoes Turns Mushy, Add turmeric powder

Add Sambar podi

Add Garam Masala

Add Soaked Chickpeas

Combine Well

Add required amount of water

Add Salt

Mix well

Pressure Cook for 5-7 whistles

Yummy Chana Masala Ready
