Veggie Burger - See how to make homemade veggie burgers from scratch, including delicious homemade vegetable patties and mayonnaise dressing. 


This is a veggie burger that even hearty meat eaters will love! Made with lots of vegetables and a whole lots of spices, this veggie burger is really lip smacking. You will absolutely love the super crispy and moist veggie patties on toasted buns, topped with lots of mayo sauce, lettuce, onion and tomato.

Options for Veggie Patties - There are lots of options for veggie patties and easy to find the healthy ingredients, add cooked sweet potatoes, black beans, quinoa, oats, corn, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage

Patties Cooking Options - You have 4 cooking options for patties

1. oven baked - preheat oven to 350 degree Fahrenheit, place the patties in the parchment paper and drizzle with a tsp of oil and bake for 20 minutes on both the sides.

2. Grilled - these burgers grill well too without the burgers falling apart (just freeze the burgers before grilling)

3. Air Fry - place the patties in the basket and air fry for 12-15 minutes in the air fryer and brush with a tsp of oil before serving on the bread

4. Stove top - heat oil in the pan and cook until golden brown. These burgers are extra moist and juicy inside.

- sliced avocado

- sliced cheese

- fresh crisp green lettuce

RECIPE FOR VEGGIE BURGER

INGREDIENTS

FOR PATTIES

  • 2 potato - chopped
  • 2 carrot - chopped
  • 3/4 cup peas
  • 3/4 cup beans - chopped
  • 1/2 tsp ginger powder
  • 2 green chili - chopped
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 3/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 tbsp oil
For Batter
  • 1/2 cup corn flour or rice flour
  • 1/3 cup water
For Coating
  • 1.5 cup bread crumbs (panko bread crumbs, normal bread crumbs or coarse corn flakes)
For Mayo Sauce
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1.5 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder or crushed garlic
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli flakes
  • salt to taste
For Veggie Burger or Accompaniments
  • 6 burger buns
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter - at room temperature
  • 6 lettuce leaves
  • 1 large tomato - cut into round slices
  • 1 large onion - cut into round slices

PROCEDURE

  • bring water to boil in a pressure cooker
  • add chopped carrot, beans, peas, potato in a steamer bowl
  • steam cook for 15-20 minutes
  • transfer the steamed veggies in to a mixing bowl
  • mash the veggies with a potato masher
  • add ginger powder, Garam Masala powder, salt, green chilli and coriander leaves
  • mix well (it's kind of mushy and sticky mix)
  • finally add bread crumbs and combine altogether (add bread crumbs in batches)
  • mixture should not be too soggy or too moist (it will be slight stickiness and it will be firm)
  • divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and flatten it to the same size as your burger bun (if it is sticky, roll the patties in rice flour or corn flour)
  • make all the patties like this and set aside, veggie patties are ready
  • in another mixing bowl, mix corn flour with water, flour batter ready
  • take bread crumbs in a broad plate
  • dip each patty in the flour batter and then place them in the bread crumbs
  • coat the bread crumbs all over the patty and set aside
  • place the prepared patties in refrigerator for 15-20 minutes (it will help the crumbs stick well to the patties)
  • heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan
  • once the oil becomes hot, place one patty and fry them in medium flame until it turns golden brown and crisp
  • gently turn over to other side and fry well until the base turns golden brown and crispy texture
  • remove the patty from the oil and cool down slightly in the room temperature before assembling in the burger
  • like this way fry all the patties (if you are not using the patties, place the prepared patties in ziplock bag and freeze it), whenever you want to make burger, take the patties out, thaw in the room temperature and fry in the oil.
  • For Mayo Sauce, in a mixing bowl, mix mayonnaise, olive oil, lemon juice, black pepper powder, garlic powder, salt and red chilli flakes
  • heat a tsp of butter in a pan, toast the bun until light brown and set aside (this process takes only 30 seconds)
  • MAKING BURGER, place the toasted bun in a plate, add a spoon of mayo sauce and spread evenly
  • then place the fried veggie patty, then place the lettuce, sliced onion and tomato
  • again drizzle with mayo sauce on the onion and tomato, then cover with another bun
  • Veggie Burger are ready to serve
  • taste is too better than any restaurant version
  • Must try recipe and serve with potato wedges, cheese balls, French fries, salads are some of the great sides.


NOTES

  1. for veggie options, you can also add corn, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, sweet potatoes etc.,
  2. you can add mushrooms and spinach in the patties, just saute in a tsp of oil and then mix with patties
  3. if you don't have mayonnaise, replace with greek yogurt, almond yogurt or cream cheese
  4. if you don't want to fry the patties in the oil, bake the patties in oven for 20 minutes in 350 degree F or you can use the air fryer and fry the patties for 15 minutes

VEGGIE BURGER WITH STEP BY STEP PHOTO RECIPE


chop all the veggies, rinse well in running water and add them in a bowl, place the bowl in pressure cooker and steam the veggies for 15-20 minutes or until it cooked well


transfer the cooked veggies in a mixing bowl, mash all the veggies well with a potato masher and then add chopped green chilli, coriander leaves, salt, ginger powder and Garam Masala powder and 
mix altogether


add bread crumbs in batches 


mix everything well, it will be slightly sticky, but tat's okay


divide the dough into 4-6 equal portions and flatten it to the same size as your burger bun 


take corn flour in a bowl


add water and mix well without any lumps


spread bread crumbs in a plate


dip each patty in the flour batter 


then place them in the bread crumbs and coat all over the sides, place the patties in refrigerator for 15-20 minutes


heat oil in a pan, once the oil becomes hot, place one patty and fry them in medium flame until it turns golden brown and crispy texture


gently turn over to other side and fry well until the base turns golden brown and crispy texture, remove from the oil and slightly cool down


heat a tsp butter in a pan, toast the bun



for mayo sauce, add mayonnaise, olive oil, lemon juice, pepper powder, garlic powder, salt and red chilli flakes


mix well


spread the mayo sauce on the toasted bun


place the fried veggie patty on the mayo sauce


add lettuce


add sliced onion and tomato


drizzle with a tbsp of mayo sauce


cover the burger with another bun
