Falafel are deep fried balls from middle eastern cuisine that are served as a snack. Falafel are made using chickpeas. Falafel are served with hummus and tahini sauce . The recipe am sharing here is a traditional one which is made from scratch with dry chickpeas. Don’t use cooked or canned chickpeas. We can make this recipe more healthier instead of deep fry we can bake in an oven also. This recipe is so easy and simple to make. Follow my step-by-step photo recipe to make falafel. RECIPE FOR CHICKPEA FALAFEL

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup dry chickpea | garbanzo beans
  • 1 small onion – roughly chopped
  • 3 tbsp coriander leaves
  • 5 garlic
  • 1 tbsp chickpea flour 
  • salt as needed
  • 1 tsp cumin seed
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp pepper powder
  • 1 tbsp rice flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda (optional)
  • oil for deep fry

PROCEDURE

  • soak 1 cup chickpea with enough water for overnight
  • drain off the water completely
  • in the mixing bowl, add chickpea, roughly chopped onion, coriander leaves, garlic, chickpea flour, salt, cumin seed, coriander powder, red chilli powder and pepper powder.
  • transfer everything into a mixer grinder
  • grind to a slight coarse paste without adding any water
  • transfer into a mixing bowl
  • add rice flour and baking soda
  • mix well
  • make a small sized ball
  • drop the balls in hot oil
  • cook in medium flame and stir occasionally
  • once the falafel turns golden brown
  • remove from oil 
  • serve with mayonnaise or with any of your choice.
  • enjoy this healthy snack with your family and friends

Falafel Recipe with Step-by-Step Photo Recipe

soak 1 cup dry chickpea with enough water for overnight

drain off the water completely

add roughly chopped onion

add coriander leaves

add garlic

add chickpea flour

add salt

add cumin seed

add coriander powder

add red chilli powder

add pepper powder

transfer all the ingredients into mixer grinder

grind to a slight coarse paste

transfer into mixing bowl

add rice flour

add baking soda

mix well

make a small size ball

drop the balls in hot oil

cook in medium flame and stir occasionally

once falafel turns golden brown, drain the excess oil
