Christmas cookies or christmas biscuits are traditionally sugar cookies or biscuits cut in to various shapes related to christmas. At the holidays, gingerbread cookies are a dessert staple. These crispy cookies are full of delicious spices that give them a distinctive flavor. While there is quite a bit of preparation work involved in mankind the dough, the cookies are easy to make and a lot of fun to decorate.


One of the all time favorite treats for the holidays are gingerbread men. Their chewy, spicy goodness warms the mouth and warms the tummy, and are favored by everybody from our home.

Recipe for Ginger Bread Cookies

INGREDIENTS
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 21/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • royal icing (Any color)
PROCEDURE
  •  In a mixing bowl, add butter and brown sugar.
  • Whisk altogether.
  • add egg
  • beat well, till silky smooth texture.
  • add molasses.
  • mix well for 30 seconds or till incorporated. keep it aside.
  • In another mixing bowl, add all purpose flour
  • add baking soda, salt, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg.
  • mix all the ingredients.
  • combine wet and dry ingredients in one bowl.
  • just mix altogether and don't over mix.
  • knead well to make like a soft dough.
  • now cookie dough ready.
  • cover in a plastic wrap.
  • refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • after 30 minutes, divide the dough in to two halves.
  • spread a wax paper, place a dough on it.
  • sprinkle some all purpose flour.
  • place another wax paper on top and roll into 3 mm thickness size.
  • cut out shapes with a flavored cookie cutter, cutting them as close to one another as possible to minimize waste.
  • Transfer the cookies on to the parchment paper, remove the dough scraps between the cookies.
  • pre-heat oven to 350 degree Fahrenheit.
  • bake the cookies just until they're slightly brown around the edges 8 to 10 minutes, or until they feel firm.
  • let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for several minutes or until they're set.
  • repeat the remaining dough.
  • decorate the cookies with Royal Icing and food safe markers.
