Mutton pepper gravy recipe is very simple to prepare. This recipe is quite common in south India.  In one pressure cooker we will finish this recipe. This recipe requires no masala grinding. Tomato also optional. Mutton is cooked with onion, ginger garlic paste and other spice powders. If anyone has cold and cough this pepper gravy is perfect for them. RECIPE FOR MUTTON PEPPER GRAVY

INGREDIENTS

  • 500g mutton with bone or boneless
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil 
  • 2 bay leaf
  • 1 onion – thinly sliced
  • 2 green chilli
  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 small size tomato
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • salt as needed
  • 1.5 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1 tsp pepper powder – divided
  • 1 spring curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves for garnish

PROCEDURE 

  • cut mutton in to small pieces, wash thoroughly in running water and finally wash with turmeric powder and keep it aside.
  • add ghee and oil in a pressure cooker
  • add bay leaves and saute 
  • add thinly sliced onions, saute well until it turns golden brown
  • add green chillies, ginger garlic paste and saute well to get rid of raw smell
  • add chopped tomatoes, saute till it turns mushy
  • add mutton and mix well
  • add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and salt
  • mix well
  • add 1.5 cup of water 
  • now add garam masala powder, pepper powder, curry leaves and stir well
  • pressure cook for 3-5 whistles or until it gets soft
  • add the remaining pepper powder and cook the whole mixture for about 10 minutes in low flame or until it get thick gravy consistency
  • garnish with coriander leaves
  • serve hot with rice, parotta or chapathi
  • tastes delicious

Mutton Pepper Gravy Step-by-Step Photo Recipe

chop the mutton in to pieces, wash well and marinate with turmeric powder and keep it aside

add ghee and oil in a pressure cooker

add bay leaf  and saute well

add thinly sliced onions

saute well

onions are golden brown

add slitted green chillies and ginger garlic paste

saute well to get rid of raw smell

add chopped tomatoes

saute well till it turns mushy

add mutton

 mix well

add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder

combine well

add water

add garam masala powder

add pepper powder

add curry leaves

pressure cook for 3-5 whistles

after pressure release

add remaining pepper powder

mix well and allowed to cook in low flame till the gravy thickens

add chopped coriander leaves

mutton chukka

serve with rice, parotta and chapathi
